What is a T-bone accident?

When one vehicle crashes into the side of another vehicle, the accident is called a T-bone accident. The name comes from the T-shape position of cars in the accident. Broadside accident is another name for this type of accident.

What does the right of way have to do with this type of accident?

The right of way is the traffic law that gives one vehicle precedence on the road over another vehicle. In a traffic accident where one car crashes into another, they do not both have the right of way. Typically, one vehicle has violated the right-of-way. For example, when a vehicle strikes another car that is running a red light, it often crashes into the side of the other car. In this case, the car running the red light was violating the right of way.
